Long-Term Storage for Freeze-Dried Foods

You’ve invested time and energy into freeze-drying your food. Now let’s make sure it stays perfect for years to come.

The Enemies of Freeze-Dried Food

Three factors can ruin your preserved foods:

  • Moisture - Even small amounts can cause spoilage
  • Oxygen - Leads to oxidation and flavor loss
  • Light - Degrades nutrients and color

Best Storage Containers

Mylar Bags

The gold standard for long-term storage. Combined with oxygen absorbers, mylar bags can protect food for 25+ years.

Mason Jars

Great for foods you’ll use within 1-2 years. Use oxygen absorbers and store in a dark place.

Temperature Considerations

Cool, stable temperatures extend shelf life. Aim for 60-70°F if possible.
